چکیده

Abstract Following the results of a study carried out for the neighbouring Sicilian region, this paper reports a study of the applicability of the annual value, F , of the Arnouldus index to represent the erosion risk in Calabrian region. Firstly, By using 214 values of the mean annual value of the erosivity index, FF, and a Kriging interpolation method, an isoerosivity map is plotted. Then, in order to predict the erosion risk for an event of any return period, the probability distribution of the FaJ index is studied. An in situ statistical analysis, carried out by using candidate distributions with two parameters (Gauss, LN2, EV1 and Weibull distribution), showed that the EV1 and LN2 laws were characterized by the best fit to the empirical Cumulative Distribution Function (CDF). In order to establish the theoretical CDF to use as a regional parent distribution, the descriptive ability of the LN2 and EV1 distributions was also studied by a hierarchical regional procedure. Finally, the analysis showed that for each Calabrian sub-region, characterized by a constant value of the coefficient of variation, the erosion risk index was constant.

Rainfall erosivity in Italy: a national scale spatio-temporal assessment

Soil erosion by water is a serious threat for the Mediterranean region. Raindrop impacts and consequent runoff generation are the main driving forces of this geomorphic process of soil degradation. The potential ability for rainfall to cause soil loss is expressed as rainfall erosivity, a key parameter required by most soil loss prediction models. In Italy, rainfall erosivity measurements are l...

Monthly Rainfall Erosivity: Conversion Factors for Different Time Resolutions and Regional Assessments

As a follow up and an advancement of the recently published Rainfall Erosivity Database at European Scale (REDES) and the respective mean annual R-factor map, the monthly aspect of rainfall erosivity has been added to REDES. Rainfall erosivity is crucial to be considered at a monthly resolution, for the optimization of land management (seasonal variation of vegetation cover and agricultural sup...

Predicting rainfall-runoff erosivity for single storms in northern Iraq

Estimation of soil loss from single storm events is essential for basin planning and nonpoint source pollution control. Rainfall-runoff erosivity factors for single storm events in northern Iraq were derived from the basic theory of soil detachment and transport. The factors derived are a single parameter which includes runoff depth only and a factor which combines runoff depth and peak rate. T...

Spatial Variability in Rainfall Erosivity versus Rainfall Depth: Implications for Sediment Yield

ity in rainfall erosivity and associated sediment yield. Rainfall erosivity and sediment yield can be measured Rainfall depth within small semiarid watersheds can have high much more cost effectively than runoff, an important spatial variability, but spatial variability in rainfall erosivity, a more direct determinant of sediment yield, has not been quantified. Using consideration when studying...

Spatial and temporal variability of rainfall erosivity factor for Switzerland

Rainfall erosivity, considering rainfall amount and intensity, is an important parameter for soil erosion risk assessment under future land use and climate change. Despite its importance, rainfall erosivity is usually implemented in models with a low spatial and temporal resolution. The purpose of this study is to assess the temporaland spatial distribution of rainfall erosivity in form of the ...
